Ritz to present ‘All is Calm’
Twelve performers with Theatre Latté Da are to transport the audience back in time with “All Is Calm: The Christmas Truce of 1914.” With more than two dozen songs, this production re-creates a scene along World War I’s Western Front, during which warfare is suspended to celebrate Christmas.
The performance is set for 7:30 p.m. Friday at The Ritz Theatre, 30 S. Washington St. It is based on first-hand accounts from 30 Allied and German soldiers who describe a shared meal, soccer games and singing songs such as “It’s a Long Way to Tipperary,” “Keep the Homefires Burning,” “Aulde Lang Syne” and “Silent Night.”
The musical premiered in a live radio broadcast in 2007, featuring the vocal ensemble Cantus. Since 2008, “All Is Calm” has toured nearly 50 cities, including The Kennedy Center (Washington, D.C.), the Metropolitan Museum (New York) and Cal Performances (Berkeley, CA).
Tickets range from $20-$50. For ticket information, contact The Ritz Theatre Box Office at (419) 934-0294 or visit www.ritztheatre.org. For additional information visit, www.alliscalm.org.
