‘The Music Man’

Heidelberg University’s School of Music & Theatre kicks off the 2018-19 season with its rendition of Meredith Willson’s classic romantic comedy, “The Music Man,” with performances at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 1:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

“The Music Man” follows fast-talking traveling salesman “Professor” Harold Hill as he cons the people of River City, Iowa, into buying instruments and uniforms for a boy’s band that he vows to organize. Despite the fact that Hill doesn’t know a trombone from a treble clef, his plans to make a profit and skip town are foiled when he falls for Marian the Librarian, who changes everything.

Directed by Stephen Svoboda, the cast includes Sam Stohlman (Professor Harold Hill); Lo Jackson (Marian the Librarian); Gavin Hubbard (Marcellus Washburn), Gavin Buurma (Tommy Djilas), Kaylea Bowers (Zaneeta Shinn), Austin Buckhalter (Mayor Shinn), Madison Swyers (Eulalie Mackecknie Shinn), Ashley Dawson (Mrs. Paroo), Connor Applegate (Charlie Cowell), Xander Roerdink (Winthrop) and Annika Myers (Amaryllis).
