In Motion dancers to help raise funds for F.A.C.T. April 29
A local dance studio is to bring its dancers together to perform for a cause at the end of April.
In Motion Dance Studio is to present “Dancers In Motion For F.A.C.T.” at 2 p.m. April 29 in the auditorium of Columbian High School, 300 S. Monroe St.
This will be the second local fundraiser the dance studio has put together, said Jennifer Karl, In Motion Dance Studio director.
“I wanted to start something like this in order to do some good with the student’s talents,” Karl said.
She said they had always focused on competitions, but wanted to expand that focus to make the dancers well-rounded citizens.
Previously, the dance studio raised $4,000 for Seneca Autism Learning & Support Association.
In addition to the fundraiser, the students are required to participate in community service.
“It is a real team effort,” Karl said. “Parents really make it all possible.”
She said the students are in charge of choosing which local agency to focus on, and this year they chose Financial Assistance for Cancer Treatment of Seneca County.
“The students were really passionate and excited to benefit F.A.C.T.,” Karl said. “Who doesn’t know someone dealing with cancer? This is something they all felt strongly about.”
She said a parent of a dancer recently was diagnosed with breast cancer. She said all the older students especially had a reality check and wanted to do some good for the community.
The performances are to showcase different styles of dance from the studio’s dance teams, including tap dance, jazz, music theater, acrobatic and ballet.
In addition to the performance, Karl said there will be a raffle and silent auction preview at 1:30 p.m.
J.T.’s Bagel Bar also is to offer refreshments and donate $1 of each meal deal purchased at the benefit to F.A.C.T.
“Why not come and see a great performance and so some good?” Karl said.
There is a donation fee to attend, $5 for adults and $3 for children 12 years old and younger.
