Olivia Newton-John to spend evening at Ritz
The Ritz Theatre is to welcome a four-time Grammy Award-winning singer, actress, community activist and breast cancer “thriver” this weekend.
Internationally recognized Olivia Newton-John is to perform “An Evening with Olivia Newton-John” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
Newton-John has a career spanning five decades with more than 100 million albums sold. She reached stardom in 1978 with her co-starring role with John Travolta in “Grease.”
“I have always been a big fan of her music since I was a kid. We are excited to have her preforming here at The Ritz,” said Michael Strong, theater director. “Tickets sales have been very strong and we are expecting an almost capacity crowd here Saturday night. There are still tickets available toward the back of the main floor and in the balcony.”
Newton-John also received numerous Country Music, American Music, Billboard and People’s Choice awards and an Emmy Award, and recorded 10 No. 1 hits and more than 15 top 10 singles. She also recently topped the Billboard Dance Club Songs chart with her daughter Chloe Lattanzi, becoming the first mother/daughter duo to top the chart.
In addition to her career, Newton-John has spent time working on humanitarian and environmental causes. She served as a goodwill ambassador to the U.N. Environment Programme, was the co-founder of Children’s Health Environmental Coalition and, in 1992, created National Tree Day in Australia, which lead to planting more than 10 million trees.
Newton-John was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992 that led to her partnership with Austin Health and creation of the Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness and Research Centre in Melbourne, Australia.
Her latest recording, “LIV ON,” is a collaboration CD with her friends Beth Nielsen Chapman and Amy Sky.
Tickets cost $55-$65 and can be purchased by visiting the box office at 30 S. Washington St., calling (419) 448-8544 or visiting www.ritztheatre.org.
