Comic Book Day celebrated

FREMONT – Rupp’s Comics in Fremont is hosting its 13th annual Free Comic Book Day celebration Saturday.

The object is to bring the literature, art and culture of comic books to readers of all ages. Special edition books will be given free at Rupp’s and other participating stores.

“Free Comic Book Day is, for us, about promoting literacy, as well the art and fun of the books,” said Christopher Rupp, owner of Rupp’s Comics. “The costumes, movies, television shows, artwork … everything works because there is a story happening in every comic book. It’s a great way to begin reading at any age or to rekindle an interest in reading.”

Guest artists, Alex Konat from Aspen Comics and Brian Level from Lazarus, will draw and sign “The New Philadelphia Ghostbusters.” Rupp’s recent acquisition, 1963’s “Amazing Spider-Man #1” will be displayed, too.

Events run 9 a.m.-7 p.m. at Rupp’s Comics, 335 N. Ohio Ave., Fremont. Call (419) 334-4959 or visit for more information.
