Parade to be shown on satellite TV

DirecTV and Dish Network are to carry the Thanksgiving Day parade in Chicago beginning at 9 a.m. Eastern time today. Watch for the Columbian High School marching band on channel 307 (DirecTV) or channel 239 (Dish).

The parade also is to be streamed live at The band is to be unit 23.

Fostoria to host Christmas events

FOSTORIA – The Fostoria Area Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau is to host its second Grinch/Whoville weekend for children 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Dec. 7.

Children can have breakfast with Santa 9-11 a.m. in the Masonic Temple, 113 E. Tiffin St., free for each child age 10 and younger with paid adult admission of $6. Additional children are $3 each. A Whoville character costume contest is to take place at the breakfast.

Fostoria shops and businesses will have special events, bargains and music by carolers, bands and a bell choir. Horse-drawn wagon rides are to be available noon-2 p.m. Stop at the Fostoria Plaza parking lot for photos with live reindeer.

Santa will appear again in the holiday parade at 11 a.m. After lighting the tree, Santa will come to the LE&W Depot from noon-3 p.m. After feeding his reindeer 3-5 p.m., Santa is to be back in the depot 5-7 p.m.

Fostoria Community Band is to present a holiday concert at 2:30 p.m. Dec. 8 at the Fostoria Intermediate Elementary School. Among pieces the band will perform include “Symphonic Prelude on Adeste Fidelis,” “‘Twas the Night Before Christmas,” “Baby, It’s Cold Outside,” “Christmas Sing-Along” and “Stars and Stripes for Christmas.”

The Tuba Family Players will be featured as they perform holiday favorites. The free concert will include refreshments during intermission.

‘Daisy’ cast sought

BUCYRUS – Auditions for “Driving Miss Daisy”

are to take place at 2 p.m. Dec. 8 at Bucyrus Little Theatre, 130 Songer St., Bucyrus.

The cast consists of one woman and two men. Age is approximate because those cast will need to convincingly age over the course of the play. The characters are Daisy Werthan, a widow (age 72-97), Hoke Coleburn, her chauffeur (age 60-85), and Boolie Werthan, Miss Daisy’s son (age 40-65).

The show dates will be in early March.
