Country music star Kellie Pickler is to take a break from her role in “Dancing with the Stars” to appear at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at The Ritz Theatre in Tiffin.

Barbershop show Saturday

FOSTORIA – The Fostoria Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society is to present “As Luck Would Have It” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the Performing Arts Center at Fostoria High School.

The show is to feature the Fostoria Lake Plains Barbershop Chorus and five quartets.

Adult tickets are $14 and student tickets are $7 at the door.

You go to ‘Hugo’?

The Ritz Theatre and Tiffin Seneca Public Library are to continue the Read It – See It Film Series at 2 p.m. Sunday with a screening of the family adventure, “Hugo.”

The PG-rated movie stars Ben Kingsley, Sacha Baron Cohen, Asa Butterfield and Chloe Grace Moretz. It tells the story of Hugo, a 12-year-old orphan who finds shelter in a Paris train station and meets Isabelle, the young daughter of a filmmaker. These events encourage Hugo and shape his future.

All seats are $3. Those who present any valid library card can receive free popcorn.

TU shows this weekend

The music department at Tiffin University is hosting free concerts in the Gillmor Student Center on campus this weekend.

The TU Dance Team is to perform its spring concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the Gillmor gymnasium. The performance is to feature a mix of dance styles such as hip-hop, lyrical, tap, jazz, clog, ballet, theater and dub step.

Also, high school class dancers from Dance Unlimited and In Motion are to be guest performers.

A hip-hop showcase with Mixmaster Ice, DJ Drastic, S.P.I.R.I.T., Jean P. the MC, I Am Dance, Sense, and DJ O Sharp is to take place at 9 p.m. Saturday in Osceola Theatre in TU’s Gillmor Center.

General admission is $10. It is free for TU students.

TU Kids Choir is to give its spring concert 7:30-8 p.m. Sunday in Osceola Theatre on campus.

Theater workshop free for kids

The Ritz Teen Thespian Guild is inviting area students in grades 6-8 to a free acting and theater workshop 4:30-6:30 p.m. Sunday. No registration is needed. Participants should enter through the double red doors on Riverside Drive near The National Theatre.

‘Berg hosting 3 concerts

The Heidelberg University Symphonic Band is to present its spring concert, “Flashbacks,” at 7 p.m. Saturday in Brenneman Concert Hall on campus. Conducted by John Owen, the band is to perform traditional and contemporary selections.

The concert is free.

The Heidelberg University School of Music is to present “Opera Scenes” at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Brenneman Concert Hall.

The culmination of a music course on famous operas, the program is to include pieces from Mozart’s “Don Giovanni,” “The Magic Flute” and “The Marriage of Figaro,” Puccini’s “La Rondine,” Aaron Copland’s “Tender Land,” Delibes’ “Lakme” and Verdi’s “Nabucco.”

Performing in “Opera Scenes” will be Katelyn Cabe, Brianne Cook, Kelly Devine, Makenzie Dietrich, Elle Dutton, Elaine Fowler, Kirsten Lindhurst, Holly Oberlin, Michelle Tamburo, Dakota Thorn, Melissa Tippin, Brittany Cook, Casey Jones, Nick Saxton, Jon Vestal and Seth Innis.

The show is free.

Students from the Heidelberg University Community Music School are to give spring recitals at 1, 2 and 3 p.m. May 4 in Brenneman Music Hall. Musicians of all ages are to demonstrate what they have learned this semester.

A reception is to follow each recital. There is no charge.

Mamas and Papas tribute set

CLYDE – Communities for the Arts is to present a tribute to the Mamas and the Papas at 7:30 p.m. May 4 at Clyde High School.

Tickets for “Soundtrack of the ’60s; A Live Rockumentary” may be purchased in advance at the board of education 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday or by calling (419) 547-0588.

Tickets also are to be available at the door for $20.
