Auditions planned for BSA show

BELLEVUE – Open auditions for the fairy tale musical “Into The Woods” have been scheduled for 7 p.m. May 6 and 7 at Bellevue Society for the Arts, 205 Maple St., Bellevue.

This production could be called “the rest of the story” for favorite fairy tale characters. The characters include a baker and his wife who wish to have a child; Cinderella who wishes to attend the king’s festival; and Jack (of beanstalk fame), who wishes his cow would give milk.

When the baker and his wife learn they cannot have a child because of a witch’s curse, the two set off on a journey to break the spell. At the end of the first act, all the wishes are granted, but the consequences of their actions play out in Act II with disastrous results. What begins as a lively, irreverent fantasy becomes a moving lesson about community responsibility and the

stories we tell our children.

Those auditioning should prepare 16-32 bars of contemporary musical theater; no a-cappella. An accompanist is to be provided.

Jim Jarrell of Lakewood is the director. Production dates are July 12, 13, 19 and 20 at 7:30 p.m. and July 14 at 2:30 p.m.
