Concert to feature variety of artists, music

Heidelberg University is to host “Ioana and Friends” at 7 p.m. Friday in Brenneman Music Hall on the Heidelberg campus.

Organized by violin instructor Ioana Galu, the concert is to feature faculty members from Bowling Green State University and Heidelberg, the Eastern String Quartet and the Heidelberg Jazz Ensemble.

Admission is free; a reception is to follow the concert.

Tickets remain for the Saturday performance by Nelson Illusions at The Ritz Theatre. Tickets are $10 for the 7:30 p.m. show.

Trip to Toronto in works

Allen Eiry Senior Center in Tiffin is taking registrations for a trip to Toronto to see a stage production of “The Wizard of Ox.”

The four-day motorcoach excursion is May 28-31. It includes three nights at the Holiday Inn Express, three breakfasts, two dinners, tickets for “Oz” and “Famous People Players Theatre,” a sightseeing tour, museum stops and a harbor boat cruise.

Cost is $899 per person for double occupancy. A deposit of $100 is needed to reserve a seat, with the balance due by April 20.

Also, seats still are available for a seven-day New England and Canada cruise June 30-July 6 aboard the Queen Mary 2.

To reserve a seat, deposit $500, with the balance due by March 8. The cost is $2,479 for a double interior stateroom and $2,927 for a double oceanview stateroom. The package includes motorcoach transportation to the East Coast, pre-cruise lodging in the Pocono Mountains, fireworks and programs in Boston, a tour of Halifax, Nova Scotia, and other attractions.

Performers needed for latest ‘Firelands Idol’

BELLEVUE – Towne and Country Players is organizing its sixth annual “Firelands Idol” talent competition for performers 6 and older.

Auditions are to start at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 20 at Seybert United Methodist Church, 442 W. Main St., Bellevue. All acts must be family-friendly and age-appropriate.

Artists must be available to progress through all three stages of the competition.

“Idol” staff is looking for contestants for Kiddie Idol, ages 6-12; Teen Idol, ages 13-19; Junior Idol, ages 20-49; and Senior Idol, ages 50 and older.

The second preliminary is set for 1:30 p.m. Jan. 17 in Norwalk at the St. Mary School library, 38 W. League St. Winners of both preliminaries will progress to the semi-finals at 2:30 p.m. Feb. 10 at Edison High School, Milan.
