The Rogiers

Don and Shirley Rogier celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a 4:30 p.m. Mass July 27, 2013, at St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria, followed by dinner with their family at Bubby’s in New Riegel.

The couple was married July 27, 1963, at St. Boniface Catholic Church, New Riegel, by the Rev. Leo A. Hoying.

They are the parents of seven children, Joe Rogier of Portage, Mich., Dawn Marie (Qani Belul) Rogier of Washington, D.C., Nikki (Matt) McIver of Elyria, Phaedra (Matt) Swonger of Perrysburg, Chris (Yimei) Rogier of Dunedin, Fla., April (Chad) Mowery of North Baltimore and Marcus Rogier of Columbus. Ten grandchildren complete the family.

Shirley is the daughter of Marie (Schalk) Scherger of New Riegel and the late James Scherger. She was a service representative for Ohio Bell Telephone Co., until caring for her family became a full-time job.

Don is the son of the late G. Christie and Bertha (Elchert) Rogier. He retired after a career in education, including 26 years as an administrator for Lakota Local Schools.
